Client: Joyance Partners is the first venture fund focused on finding and growing new companies that deliver Delightful Moments derived from science.
Context: Joyance approached me to give a workshop outlining the Joy Soldier Toolkit and interactive brainstorming activity
This month I was extremely pleased to co-host a private event with one of our portfolio companies, Declare, focused on joy creation and maintenance for female leaders in finance. Our dynamic speaker, Sarah Wood, (ex Yoga instructor to trauma and refugee communities, now Goldman Sachs analyst) gave her TEDx talk on the 3:1 joy ratio needed to maintain good mental and emotional health, and led the group through specific exercises to reset the nervous system.
It seems obvious why people seek joy, but it's less obvious how it affects the body long-term. A 2010 study released in the European Heart Journal, reported that for each one-point increase in positive emotions a patient expressed, their heart disease risk was 22 percent lower. And, according to a UC Berkeley article on meaningful living, happiness not only strengthens your heart, but it also strengthens your immune system, combats stress, and results in fewer aches and pains.
Now, more than ever, I think we could all use an immune system boost.
